IT 201 - Intermediate Italian I

Course description
This course will give emphasis to all of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in Italian vis-á-vis our reading and discussion of Italo Calvino’s novel, Marcovaldo, and review of the main points of Italian grammar. Course requirements include midterm and final exams, six written compositions, frequent homework assignments and a daily journal. Regular class attendance and participation is expected.

Course Objectives

  • To be able to use all fundamental grammatical structures of the Italian with competency and accuracy.
  • To be able to understand an express themselves in Italian at an analytical as well as conversational level.
  • To be able to read and comprehend an Italian novel written in contemporary prose.
  • To be able to write analytically and creatively in Italian in a manner appropriate to the level.
  • To have a greater awareness and appreciation of Italian culture and society through the study of Italian language and literature.
